About Vintage Racing
Vintage racing is one of the primary draws of the AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days experience. Taking full advantage of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course’s expansive, 380-acre facility, the AMA is able to offer National Championship competition in numerous disciplines including: road racing, motocross, hare scrambles, trials, flat track, and more!
VMD offers racing opportunities for everyone from weekend warriors to ex-pro and even Hall of Fame riders who are looking to experience the thrill of competition on all manner of vintage racing machines, some of which are nearly 100 years old! Whether it’s brakeless, flathead-powered Harley-Davidsons sliding sideways at the flat track, first-gen Superbikes roaring through Thunder Valley, or air-cooled two-strokes soaring over the jumps on the outdoor motocross track, Vintage Motorcycle Days delivers racing thrills for anyone and everyone.
Motocross
Relive the glory days of motocross at Vintage Motorcycle Days! Held on a period-correct grass track with modest table-top jumps, VMD motocross competition includes categories for vintage, Evolution- and Revolution-era off-road machines. With easy-to-access viewing, the motocross races are hugely popular with VMD spectators, too.
Roadracing
The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course is one of the most challenging road racing venues in America. What better location to host the AMA’s Vintage Road Racing Grand Championship? With classes for everything from hand-shifted pre-war racers to modern but non-current superbikes, Vintage Motorcycle Days is a bucket-list event for every vintage road racing enthusiast.
Hare Scrambles
VMD Hare Scrambles participants race for one hour on a 3.5-mile, natural-terrain woods loop through the forest, across the fields, and even through a few creek crossings, too. VMD Hare Scrambles are a perfect opportunity to challenge yourself, enjoy your vintage off-road bike, and have some fun racing friends, too.
Trials
Observed trials is a test of technique, balance, and the ability to navigate over or around obstacles without stalling, crashing, or touching a foot to the ground—and it’s even more challenging on vintage bikes! VMD offers natural-terrain trials routes to test riders of all skill levels, from novice to expert.
Flat Track
Vintage flat track races are held on the half-mile circle track at the Ashland County Fairgrounds, located roughly 25 miles away from Mid-Ohio. Part of the larger, AMA Vintage Flat Track National Championship Series, this event offers classes for vintage flat track bikes from every era, plus a few modern racing classes, too.
Pitbike Racing
Whether you refer to them as minibikes, pitbikes, boonie bikes or something else, racing small-displacement motorcycles around a compact dirt track with your friends is some of the most fun you can have on two wheels—and a great complement to every other racing discipline at VMD.
AMA Vintage Grand Championship
The AMA Vintage Grand Championship, run in conjunction with AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, includes competition in the motocross, hare scrambles, road racing and trials disciplines — as well as a round of the AMA Vintage Flat Track National Championship Series. Class winners in each discipline are recognized as AMA Vintage National Champions.
The AMA Vintage Grand Championship also crowns an AMA Vintage Grand Champion and AMA Vet/Senior Vintage Grand Champion. These special titles recognize the most versatile off-road riders who earn the most combined points from all three off-road disciplines: motocross, trials, and hare scrambles.
Youth Riders
Youth racers are welcome to participate in all the action at Vintage Motorcycle Days. The age requirements for competitors in each discipline are as follows:

- Motocross and Hare Scrambles: 9 years and up
- Flat Track: 12 years and up (youth riders are not allowed to participate in the dirt-track brakeless class)
